AN EXPERIENTIAL ARTWORK
BREATHE is an intimate yet powerful art installation; a 5-metre rising sphere pulsing with a slow, rhythmic light. Housed within a city’s iconic building, it creates a dedicated space for contemplation and connection, accessible both day and night. The installation serves dual purposes: as an architectural art piece that evokes wonder and community, and as a mindfulness tool that guides visitors to slow down and find respite from urban intensity.
At the sphere’s core, a warm light pulses both day and night. BREATHE is an invitation to gather around and synchronise our breath with it and with each other. The work also features a synchronised soundscape, allowing participants to close their eyes without losing the cadence.
The installation transitions from dim to bright and back in a regular cycle, mirroring inhalations and exhalations of 6 seconds each. While individual breathing patterns vary, maintaining this rate of five breaths per minute has been widely recognised for its benefits to physical and mental wellbeing.
The experience connects strangers through what unites us at our core: a breath, a heartbeat. It’s a beautiful and simple reminder that in essence – regardless of our differences – we are all the same.
EXTENDING THE BREATHE PULSE TO THE BUILDING AND THE CITY
While the sphere creates an accessible and intimate breathing space, the building itself becomes part of this living, breathing artwork. The architectural facade pulses in perfect synchronisation with the sphere, extending the meditation outward and creating a beacon of calm within the urban landscape. It is a powerful reminder to be aware and in touch with one’s breath, again and again.

BREATHE VARIATIONS
BREATHE is a versatile work of public art which can be experienced in three site-specific formats. The spheres are the central heartbeat of each installation, pulsing in sync with other spheres and buildings around the world.
BREATHE – Citywide: The 15-metre sphere serves as the installation’s central heartbeat, pulsing in a large open area. Its rhythm radiates outward as key monuments, natural features and public screens pulse in sync, transforming the entire city into a unified breathing space.
BREATHE – Spaces: A 5-metre sphere which pulses in harmony with its surroundings – whether it’s a building’s facade, surrounding trees, or architectural features. It can be installed inside or outside: in museum courtyards, concert halls, cathedrals and other places of worship, industrial buildings, in front of historic monuments, creating a synchronised breathing environment in each unique setting.
THE WEBSITE: GLOBALLY SYNCHRONISED BREATHING
BREATHE’s dedicated website aims to connect people globally. Thanks to an online pulsing which is synchronised with the physical dome, friends, family and complete strangers around the world can breathe in unison.
People can continue the BREATHE experience online even at times when the dome is not physically present in any geographic location. The site also serves as a free, permanently accessible tool for conscious and guided breathing.
